Partnering with the Interpreting SAFE-AI Task Force

By: Universal Language Service

Greetings from UniversalLanguage! We’re thrilled to share insights into our collaboration with the Interpreting SAFE-AI Task Force. This partnership isn’t just another project for us—it’s a significant stride in shaping ethical AI in language services.

Back in September 2023, a pivotal moment arrived for the language interpretation industry. The Interpreting SAFE-AI Task Force, a coalition of experts and enthusiasts from our field, officially commenced its journey. Their mission? To guide and develop best practices for AI use in language interpretation, a topic that’s been gaining momentum in tech circles worldwide. (1)

A key highlight of the Task Force’s work was the launch of the End-User Perception Survey in multiple languages, including American Sign Language (ASL) coming soon. This survey, originally in English, aimed to tap into the experiences and views of those who rely on interpreting services across health care, government, education, and more. By extending the survey to languages like Arabic, French, Korean, and others, the Task Force embraced a diverse range of perspectives, making sure no voice is left unheard. (2)

Our involvement in supporting this Perception Survey stems from a shared belief in the power of ethical AI. As Carla Fogaren from the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care puts it, it’s about understanding AI’s potential impact on language access, especially for those most in need. (2)

At UniversalLanguage Service, we’re not just about embracing technology; we’re about doing it responsibly, inclusively, and beneficially. This collaboration with the SAFE-AI Task Force is a clear reflection of our dedication to ethical innovation. We’re not just watching the future of AI in language services unfold; we’re actively helping to shape it.

Looking ahead, we’re committed to staying on this path, continuously exploring ways to enhance language access and interpretation through technology that’s both cutting-edge and conscientious. Our journey with the Interpreting SAFE-AI Task Force is a critical part of this mission, and we’re excited about the new horizons it opens up for us and for the industry.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to make strides for ethical AI in language services!
